Imagine A Cure for Leukemia Directors Brian Abrams, BSc'90, Nara Segal (Abrams), BA'96, Jennifer Shulman and Todd Feinstein, BA'88 (Philosophy), reached their fundraising goal of $1,000,000 (cumulative since 2006) on May 30, 2013. Imagine A Cure was founded in 2006 by Nara to benefit leukemia research. The team has som exciting fundraising events planned for 2014 - imagineacureforleukemia.com.
Assistant Commissioner Marianne Ryan, BA'82 (Sociology), has been appointed the new Commanding Officer for "K" Division RCMP in Edmonton. In her new role, Ryan assumes the responsibility of leading Alberta's Provincial Police Service. There are 112 RCMP detachments in Alberta and more than 1.5 million Albertans live in the Division's jurisdictions. She will assume the rank of Deputy Commissioner and will become a member of the Commissioner's Senior Executive Committee. Her RCMP career spans 31 years and, since January 2011, she has served as the Officer-in-Charge of Criminal Operations in Alberta.
Mark Skeffington, MA'86 (Journalism), is co-founder of a new online art gallery called FineArtCollector.ca. The gallery specializes in selling Canadian fine art to people across the country. "We think an online-only gallery makes the most sense in today's Internet world," said Skeffington. The website has featured works by major artists such as David Blackwood, Conrad Furey, J.W. Beatty and others.
